Weakened trade figures for Slovakia and Romania

Trade figures released last week showed weak results for Romania and Slovakia, a worrying sign in those export-led economies. The numbers in Slovakia had been higher than expected in May, (€94m surplus), but exports were falling faster than imports. Romania’s trade deficit slumped 60 percent to €3.6bn. There’s substantial concern that as Germany’s program of supporting car sales through scrap car purchases ends, these figures will worsen.
