Volksbank Swiss franc loans weigh heavily in Romania

ZF is reporting that roughly 44%  (€1.3bn worth) of the outstanding loans Volksbank’s Romanian branch currently has were made in Swiss francs, or its equivalent. 83% of those loans are labelled “retail”, with the majority of them made on property. If you consider that the RON has depreciated 45% over the last two years, it’s not hard to figure out why that might matter. The information was taking from Volksbank’s 2009 annual report.
