Tesco anchors new Chomutov center

Spectrum stores is opening a 10,000 sqm shopping center tomorow (Sept. 30) in Chomutov, 9,000 sqm of which has been leased. A Tesco supermarket sits on the ground floor, with other tenants including CCC shoes, Dr. Max, Orsay, Takko, Euronics and Apollo Sport.

Cushman & Wakefield, which has been in charge of finding clients, points out it’s one of just four centers which will open this year in the Czech Republic. The others are Galerie Harfa, Fashion Arena (an extension) and Forum  Liberec.

In per capita terms, there will be more than 200 m2 of retail area per thousand citizens in the Czech Republic at the end of the year. The average of the EU countries should be 219 m2.
“Once Chomutovka opens, a total of eight shopping centres with a total area exceeding 130,000 m2 will be available to customers in the Ústí Region. In per capita terms, this means 163 m2 of retail area per thousand citizens. As a result, the region will still be below the country average,” says Alexander Rafajlovič, Head of Research at Cushman & Wakefield Prague.
